| Ham Pong Sil from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea took bronze at the Xiamen International Marathon with a time of two hours, 28 minutes and 32 seconds. She said she just couldn't surpass the Chinese runner Zhou Chunxiu in this event but she would compete with her again at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. "I felt a bit tired and I only performed at my middle level," she said. "I hope I can do better next time."
"In Beijing I heard a lot about the beautiful scenery of Xiamen. What I saw here has proved it true." Ham Pong Sil really enjoyed the surroundings of the race track.
Under the guidance of high-quality coaches, she and her team members have been to many competitions to test their skills and amass experience. She came to Xiamen as one of many warm-up exercises for the coming Olympic Games. |
