| "I am very happy with the result." Kenyan runner Moiben James won the men's marathon, leading from the 35-kilometer mark, and covering the distance in two hours ten minutes and 54 seconds.
The gold medalist, whose best ever time is 2:10:44, said the competition was more difficult than he had anticipated and thought that he did fairly well in the competition considering the climate and wind speed along route.
This championship means a lot to him. It is his first ever marathon gold medal. His career is at its peak. The 27-year-old just couldn't hold back his excitement after the race, kissing his valuable gold medal several times.
"In my home country, there are so many top runners that I can't attend the 2004 Athens Olympic Games." The Kenyan is really proud of his country, home to many marathon champions. "I didn't expect to win the title." The gold medalist has now set his eyes on the future. His next goal is to attend the Beijing Marathon in October.
"It is very nice." The new champion exclaimed as he was asked about his impressions of Xiamen. Furthermore, he was very satisfied with the race track. Xiamen and also the rest of China have given him good memories even though this was his first time here. |
