The Organizing Committee of the Xiamen International Marathon, in partnership with the Xiamen Red Cross Society and the Xiamen Red Cross Society Foundation, has formed the Xiamen International Marathon Red Cross Benevolent Fund, with a view to promoting the spirits of the Red Cross and highlighting the commitment of the Xiamen International Marathon to public interests. The Fund is charged with the mission of providing financial aid for public interest and humanitarian assistance programs. Notice is hereby given that:

 

    I.     The Fund began operations during the registration for the 2009 Xiamen International Marathon. The Organizing Committee of the Xiamen International Marathon, the Xiamen Red Cross Society, and the Xiamen Red Cross Society Foundation release the relevant information at the meetings during the annual Xiamen International Marathon. The Fund will serve as the public interest program for the annual marathon.

 

    II.    The Fund receives donations from individuals and entities signing up for the annual Xiamen International Marathon via the online registration platform; donations from organizations involved in the organizing and staging of the annual event; and contributions from members of the public who place their donations in the boxes set up on the site during the annual marathon.

 

    III. The proceeds of the Fund will be managed and used in strict accordance with the Regulations of the State Council on Fund Management. The proceeds of the Fund will be devoted to social assistance programs meeting the guidelines of the Red Cross Society, and to public interest programs in accordance with the wishes of the donors, or to humanitarian assistance for sick or needy athletes selected by the Organizing Committee of the Xiamen International Marathon.

 

    IV.   The proceeds of the Fund will be managed in strict accordance with the relevant financial regulations and follow stringent review and approval procedures. The use of the proceeds will be subjected to inspection and financial audit by the competent government authorities.

 

    V.    It’s an international practice and a long-standing Chinese virtue to promote humanitarianism and contribute to public welfare, and philanthropy is a symbol of human advancement and social harmony.
